چکیده

We present JHKL photometry of a complete sample of steep-spectrum radio-loud quasars from the revised 3CR catalogue in the redshift range 0.65 ≤ z < 1.20. After correcting for contributions from emission lines and the host galaxies, we investigate their spectral energy distributions (SEDs) around 1μm. About 75% of the quasars are tightly grouped in the plane of optical spectral index, αopt, versus near-infrared spectral index, αIR, with the median value of αopt close to the canonical value, and the median αIR slightly flatter. We conclude that the fraction of moderately-obscured, red quasars decreases with increasing radio power, in accordance with the ‘receding torus’ model which can also explain the relatively flat median near-infrared spectra of the 3CR quasars. Two of the red quasars have inverted infrared spectral indices, and we suggest that their unusual SEDs might result from a combination of dust-scattered and transmitted quasar light.

ISO continuum observations of quasars at z = 1 - 4 ⋆ I . Spectral energy distributions of quasars from the UV to far - infrared

Eight luminous quasars with −30 < MB < −27 at z = 1.4 3.7 have been observed in the midand far-infrared using ISO. All the quasars have been detected in the mid-infrared bands of ISOCAM, while no far-infrared detections have been made with ISOPHOT. SEDs (Spectral Energy Distributions) from the UV to far-infrared have been obtained while supplementing ISO observations with photometry in the opti...

Four Quasars above Redshift 6 Discovered by the Canada-france High-z Quasar Survey

The Canada-France High-z Quasar Survey (CFHQS) is an optical survey designed to locate quasars during the epoch of reionization. In this paper we present the discovery of the first four CFHQS quasars at redshift greater than 6, including the most distant known quasar, CFHQS J2329-0301 at z = 6.43. We describe the observational method used to identify the quasars and present optical, infrared, a...

The Optical and Near-Infrared Properties of 2837 Quasars in the UKIRT Infrared Deep Sky Survey (UKIDSS)

The UKIRT Infrared Deep Sky Survey (UKIDSS) is the first of a new generation of hemispheric imaging projects to extend the work of the Two Micron All Sky Survey (2MASS) by reaching three magnitudes deeper in Y JHK imaging, to K = 18.2 (5σ, Vega) over wide fields. Better complementing existing optical surveys such as the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS), the resulting public imaging catalogues pr...

Imaging Photometry of Seyfert 1 AGNs and Quasars I: Multi-Aperture Photometry

Near-infrared JHK ′ imaging photometry was obtained of 331 AGNs consisting mainly of Seyfert 1 AGNs and quasars (QSOs). This sample was selected to cover a range of radio emission strength, redshift from z = 0 to 1, and absolute B-magnitude from MB = −29 mag to −18 mag. Among low-z AGNs with z < 0.3, Seyfert 1− 1.5 AGNs are distributed over a region from a location typical of “galaxies” to a lo...

Dust Reddened Quasars in First and Ukidss: beyond the Tip of the Iceberg

We present the results of a pilot survey to find dust-reddened quasars by matching the FIRST radio catalog to the UKIDSS near-infrared survey, and using optical data from SDSS to select objects with very red colors. The deep K-band limit provided by UKIDSS allows for finding more heavily-reddened quasars at higher redshifts as compared with previous work using FIRST and 2MASS. We selected 87 ca...
